Does sex actually bring on labour?

Question

My partner is going on about sex to start labour (I find it frustrating and uncomfortable which a big bump in the way!) Does it even actually work?!

I was told ONLY if you have started dilating and it's not sex its sperm and it only helps you thin out if you are not. I've not had sex much because it's not comfortable at all, but I've been trying once a week or more (he wants it every day) and so far it's done nothing.

My husband and I have been having sex every day for the last week. I'm 40 weeks today and still pregnant with no signs of labor. Unfortunately I don't think it helps bring on labor but I do think the sperm helps thin your cervix. Good luck!

I've read that oral is absorbed faster not sure if it's true but near the end with all the bloody show and plug my husband was a tad grossed out to have sex so I just did oral and I went into labor before my due date but I did a lot more than just that to bring on labor.  I did the oxytocin/prostaglandin combo in every form.  Circles on my yoga ball, just dance workout and pumping (creates oxytocin).  I took evening primrose along with raspberry leaf tea to reduce the risk of hemmorage from the evening primrose.  So Im not sure if it was a combination of everything or just one thing.

Hasn't worked for me, my husband and I have been having regular sex. I'm 40+6wks my cervix is still high, not dilated and hasn't softened with no signs of labour at all. Getting induced in 2 days.

Ive heard it softens cervix. My husband and I just tried but failed. I can't get going when I don't feel sexy and I feel so big and gross! We tried but husband said I was way too right (tmi sorry!)

Yes my doctor told me in there sperm is something that is suposed to soften the cervix and the orgasim if you can have one can contract your uterus which could start labor. With my son we had Sex and I finished he was born the next day and same thing with my daughter.

10 days till my due date and We've been having sex basically every day since 32 weeks. (Wanting to get as much in before We can't anymore Lol). And it hasn't helped at all. Lol.

My OB said its the only thing that will actually soften the cervix, everything else is an old wive's tale.
