Is it rude to ask someone if they are gay?

I met this guys a couple months ago and I really like him as a friend he is a lot of fun to hang out with. I have suspected he is gay from the first day I met him but he never came out and said anything to let me know for sure. Would it be considered rude for me to ask him if he is gay?

A person's sexual preference is no one's business. If someone chooses to tell you that is completely different.

What’s the point?  If he isn’t gay he will be offended, if he is he may not want you to know yet. Best to let someone tell you than to ask.

If yall are friends it shouldn’t be an issue. I see why you would like to know unlike other people in the comments and honestly, if you don’t ask you might just think about it for a while. Just ask and if he does get offended, he is weird because being gay is not horrible🤷🏾‍♀️.

Honestly, I don't consider it rude. I asked people that and nobody was upset about it. As long as you don't mean anything hurtful by your question, it should be fine. 
To me sexual orientation is just general information sbout the person. Like nationality or a favotite color. Why would anybody get offended if their new friend would want to know more about them?

I feel like it's rude to straight up ask "are you gay?"  But maybe try to have a conversation that would lead to him freely sharing some personal info that you can make a conclusion out of.
