Has anyone dealt with or heard of loosing hair from always wearing you’re hair up in a ponytail or messy bun?

I was getting really bad flyaways from hair breakage from wearing ponytails and the person cutting my hair suggested braids instead! If you’re worried you could try it out, I think they pull and damage less than ponytails and buns
