How does this work?

Question

If I am 20 and identify as a female (after being born male), why am I female? Am I female only because I identify as female? Why can I not identify as a certain age? If I'm 5 and identify as 20, why can't I work in the u.s. army? If I'm Hispanic, why am I not white? A simple checkup can prove my identity wrong.
I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm genuinely curious as to how this identity thing works...

Transgender works because we’re entering an age where gender is becoming less of an unequal divide. One gender is not better than the other (or thats what we hope for). Because of that, people are more willing to accept changes like this.
But when you consider age, this is much less about an inner feeling and more about growth and mental maturity. Just because a child feels 30 doesn’t mean their body is ready to handle drinking alcohol, or other age limited things. However, there are gifted children who have graduated universities and entered the working world before 18. It happens.
There are cases of people going the opposite direction too, but I personally believe many of the examples are just Age players (in a BDSM context).
