What’s going away to college like?

I was granted the opportunity to move away for college and I’m really thinking about it

Take it. It’s the experience of a lifetime. I’m doing that myself in the next few months

I moved 2,000 miles across the country when I was 17 to go to college (Connecticut to California). 
It was a GREAT choice. Although, very expensive. Sometimes I wish I stayed home lived with my parents the first couple years to save money. Also, out of state tuition was higher. Took me three years to become a resident. 
Aside from finances, in the beginning it was a huge adjustment. I remember sobbing like every morning the first month I woke up in my apartment/dorm because I missed my family and friends and home. Like I literally knew nobody except my roommates who I had just met. 
But eventually you just get used to it. I still miss my family and friends but I’m glad that I have a lot more independence than I would’ve if I had stayed.

It’s great but don’t forget your responsibilities when I went away for college all I did was partied and had sex a lot (don’t judge me) because I couldn’t do anything while I was home I felt finally free when I went to another state and I was reckless I didn’t even show up for classes really but if you do what you need to do and if you have a car everything will be fine

I think anyone who has that opportunity should go for it. Everyone should get out of their hometown and experience real life outside of a bubble.

Do it. It will accentuate who you are as a person and meet people who have the same priorities and ambitions as you

I liked it a lot! I felt very independent being farther away/living on my own or with roommates. I also met a lot of new friends because a lot of others came from out of state as well. Depending on how far you go, you can always visit your family for the holidays and time flew by for me because I was so busy, so I rarely felt homesick
