What did you do for First birthday smash cake?

I’m just not sure what I should do, would like to know others experiences, what worked best :)

The little one to the right was my babies smashcake & she loved it ( made with buttercream icing ) I was gonna make something “healthy” but she only turns one once so I went all out ☺️

Our smash cake was free with the purchase of a sheet cake. I didn’t see the point of making a “healthy” one. If I’m gonna give her cake, it’s gonna be the good stuff. It’s not like she’s gonna have it all the time.

For my daughter I bought a cake from Walmart and they made a matching smashcake for free. With my son I plan on doing the same if they have a batman cake we like otherwise I'll make cupcakes and let him have one.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, whatever is easier for you/you are more comfortable with, they only turn 1 once. For my daughters actual 1st birthday I bought the cake, and made one from scratch for her party a few days after. She didn’t want anything to do with either of them, didn’t even try a single bite (so much for smash cake pictures 🤦‍♀️)! Btw, now at 2 years old she loves cake 😂

My little guy is really having a tough time adjusting to solids but he loves my pumpkin spice muffins so he got one of those. That’s as close as I dare get to a cake smash! He loved it and didn’t spit it back up so I’d call it a success 🤷🏻‍♀️

I won’t be using anything with added sugar. Just bc it’s his birthday doesn’t mean I’m going to completely change his normal diet. I was thinking about watermelon or possibly unflavored but colorful gelatin/jello.
