What’re your thoughts on not hitting or whooping/popping your child when they do something wrong

It's only teaching your kid aggression when you're hitting them. Shows that you lack patience and makes your child fear you.

As parents, telling your child something they shouldn’t do (don’t hit) and then doing it yourself is hypocritical and mean. It’s also sad to me that the person who is supposed to protect you most would hit you? Backwards. Timeouts, consistent punishments/authority, etc., will work better in the long run.

Were you ever spanked as a child? I know I was and I turned out extremely well with no aggression and no problems. I do believe it depends on the situation though.

I agree with spanking as does my husband, but I also believe that after a spanking you should have your child do the behavior you expected to begin with so not only will they understand that what they did was wrong and there are consequences for their actions but also the appropriate behavior, then praise the good behavior you expected to begin with...

It’s scientifically proven to be ineffective. Additionally, it can increase aggressive behaviors and negatively impact them developmentally. Rewarding positive behaviors is far more effective. Taking away privileges and time outs are more appropriate and effective ways to manage behaviors. If your child is old enough to run out into the street, they are old enough to understand getting hurt or the basic concept of danger. Explain to them why we don’t do those things. Don’t just freak out and hit them,

I dont think i can spank my kids. I got spanked plenty as a child & turned out ok..i think lol but i believe i can teach my kids without it. One of the commenters is right, positive reinforcement is most effective for behavior modification.
(& requires the most patience from the parent). Punishment is least effective (and requires less patience).

Absolutely not. If you can't teach your child right from wrong without physically harming them then you shouldn't be a parent. This is unacceptable.

I don’t even “hit/whoop” my dogs so 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ when my child is born I doubt I’d hit them either lol
