there are technically labor laws, so he couldn't be just working and eating and sleeping 24/7 and not have time for anything else.
if your friend wants to make the relationship really work, i suggest she has him sit down and talk to her somewhere, face-to-face, or ask if she can visit him during "work."
sounds like he's not interested to me.
