Promotion Announcement: Spouse Shoutout
My husband and I work with the same company, in different departments, in the same building, on different floors. He’s been there 15 years, I’ve been there 10. Our paths have never crossed professionally, we actually met 5 years ago on match.com and were shocked to find out we worked for the same place.
I got a pretty huge promotion and it was announced yesterday. I beat out a bunch of guys and got a 40% raise so I’m really proud of myself and excited.
They sent an organizational announcement to the entire building so my husband’s co workers saw the news.
In the announcement they gave information about my history with the company, and a few sentences about what I do outside of work. Something to the effect of ‘in her free time she enjoys entertaining friends and family at home, watching bravo, and chasing her 2 year old around. She has 3 dogs and is an animal lover’ very surface level information.
The fact that I got this kick ass promotion was quickly overshadowed by the fact that my husband wasn’t specifically mentioned in the email.
Which made me look back to other organizational announcements, most recently men. None of their spouses were mentioned.
So the question is, should spouses be specifically mentioned?
If you selected ‘depends’ what does it depend on?
