Cover letter help?

Question

So after almost a decade I will be leaving my job to find something new and with potential for growth.
However it's been a REALLY long time since I've written a cover letter. I feel like my resume is pretty great but any advice on a cover letter (some positions I'm applying for require one) would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

First, look for cover letters done in your field, same as for your resume. This is the typical format:
1st paragraph: specify what job you’re applying for and mention that you are qualified for the position.
2nd paragraph: state why it is that you’re qualified. Mention any certifications/degrees, related experience (work, internships, volunteer, etc.), any projects you’ve worked on, any specific job duties that relate to the job description. 
3rd paragraph: close your cover letter. Mention you appreciate them looking over your application, you’re looking forward to them contacting you, mention where to reach you, etc. It’s up to you how you close it, these are just some ideas.
Keep it short but enticing and make sure you use some words or phrases from the job description but make it natural, don’t just shove them in.
