Should the maid of honor expect all of the bridesmaids to split the price of the bridal shower without asking?

It’s sort of tradition but it’s definitely something that should be discussed prior.

Nothing should ever be expected. However it is customary. The bridesmaids have always orchestrated the event in all the weddings I have been in. We split the cost evenly between all of us. The bride paid nothing. We were celebrating her. We discussed it amongst each other and came to agreements that suited our financial situations as well as the brides desires. Maybe I just got super lucky with great brides but I've never had an issue.

It is never OK to assume that people are OK with paying for stuff like that. Everyone's financial situation & comfort zone is different. I think it's extremely rude for someone to incur a bunch of costs that she chooses, then dump those costs on people who had no say.

There shouldn’t be any assumptions. Some people have never been part of a bridal party and genuinely don’t know what they’re expected to pay for. Everyone should just discuss it, whether that being the MOH asking what everyone would like to contribute or the other bridesmaids asking what they can help with.

I personally think the bride & groom or whoevers paying for the wedding should pay for the bridal party. If I was being invited on a hen do, I wouldn’t mind paying for myself.... but I certainly wouldn’t want to pay for everyone else🤷🏼‍♀️

I guess you’re in the states? 
In the UK it’s totally mixed - my hen do (bridal shower I guess would be closest equiv.) all my friends paid for me. It was lovely. But I know of some that don’t, some do, some pay for themselves, some don’t have a shower at all!

Maybe the MOH pays for some stuff but don’t expect it from anyone. Talk about it.
