Is hello fresh worth it?!

Tell me your experiences with Hello Fresh! Did it save you money? Was it more convenient?

It only saves you money if you get take out more frequently than you grocery shop and cook meals now.

I don’t know that it saves us money....however I will say that it is healthier options than what we would probably cook on our own, more variety than what we would cook on our own, it has reduced the dreaded hour long conversation/argument with the whole family about what we are eating this week, and it is definitely more convenient as we only have to go to the store for a few things now. With an infant and then a teenager with all their school stuff...it makes dinner not such a struggle and I feel good that we are eating half way healthy stuff.

I definitely don’t think it saves money (I’m a pretty savvy grocery shopper) but I loved the different recipes I got to try and it was really convenient after my daughter was born

The meals are really strange—I cook from scratch and make more traditional meals like 
tacos (homemade tortillas too), 
pizza (homemade sourdough crust), 
tuna salad, 
lasagna, 
steak and asparagus 
Chili
burrito bowls
Meatloaf and broccoli 
Sandwiches on homemade sourdough
Roast chicken 
Stews from homemade bone broths
Veggies from the garden etc
I just don’t like how over-styled and trendy the food is—I feel like it’s for people who don’t know how to cook.
For example, if you buy in bulk you save money. If you cook in bulk you can really save time. Let’s say I roast a chicken with some root veggies, my husband and baby will probably eat half the first night (i’ll start soaking beans for tomorrow). I’ll take the remaining chicken, shred it, and use it for tacos for lunch and chicken salad for the next dinner. Then I will take the bones and throw it in the crockpot or instant pot and make broth. You have to use rice, beans, root veggies/potatoes, and sourdough bread to stretch your food and keep it balanced. By cooking like this I can afford to buy higher quality grass fed meats and dairy.

It was way more expensive for us, and none of it was tasty enough to rationalize the price, but I am also pretty comfortable in the kitchen and whipping something up quickly isn't a big deal. I also still had to go grocery shopping anyway for breakfast stuff and the other meals we didn't get through them, so it wasn't a big deal to do a full grocery shop. I think if you aren't super comfortable in the kitchen and want to cook more at home, it could be a nice option, but definitely don't think you will save yourself any money.

Doesn’t save money but we like to use it when we get coupons and we have very busy weeks. Nice with a 3.5month old to have when my fiancée doesn’t get home until 8/9pm some nights
