So long story short, my husband and his mom have a very strained relationship and our baby’s godparents (his brother) flat out hate her guts. They’re all still family and I’d like to invite his mom. The ceremony is short but my parents are throwing a grand reception with family from all over the world coming to see her.

I don’t want her to show up at the reception in case the two of them cause a scene.

Obviously, I can’t just say, “I want to invite you to your grandbaby’s baptism but since everyone hates you, you’re not allowed to come to the after party...”

Any suggestions on how to word this?
