Chronic High Blood Pressure-Birth Control?

Ladies with High Blood Pressure... what kind of bc are you on? How has your experience been?

I’m on the Nexplanon arm implant. I was previously on a combination pill when I developed high blood pressure (from my own poor eating habits & being very overweight), and my obgyn immediately took me off it, because he said it was no longer safe for me to be on.... When u have high blood pressure, u shouldn’t be on any birth control that contains estrogen, (combination methods) because it can elevate ur blood pressure, and it puts u at higher risk for stokes & heart attacks. So, progestin only methods (like Nexplanon) or non hormonal methods are best. But, definitely discuss ur options with ur doctor.

I don’t have high bp but I know most doctors only prescribe progesterone only methods to women who do because estrogen raises bp, which can lead to blood clots or stroke. However I know someone with high bp that got prescribed the combo pill. She’s doing fine, just monitoring her bp with an at home monitor. She doesn’t have very high bp though and is on meds for it so that may be why there’s less of a risk. Best to discuss with your doctor.
