Do ectopics need 1200HCG to be detected via ultrasound?

I really think I’m having an ectopic pregnancy. My blood is being monitored. Low and slow rising hcg. Currently 32 HCG. My doctor said nothing will be detected until atleast 1200-1500 HCG on ultrasound. I fear that will be too late. Anyone?

It is true there needs to be a high enough level in your system to see anything in ultrasound. A lot of times if it’s ectopic it rises faster because it means that it “implanted” faster even though it’s not implanted in your uterus. I hope everything is okay

I’m a little surprised to hear they’re going by HCG levels, as it should be determined by how far along you are. When I had my ectopic I went in at 7 weeks and my HCG was only in the 200s. They couldn’t see anything in my tube, but it was torn/leaking blood, and there was nothing in my uterus. 
Due to my history, I was able to get an ultrasound between 5-6 weeks this time and could easily tell it was in the uterus. 
Even if your HCG does get high enough they wouldn’t be able to see anything before that time, so I would ask to schedule an ultrasound depending on weeks.

I am a sonographer and have found ectopics with hcg levels much lower than that. That being said,  just as it takes time for a pregnancy to be visible in the uterus, the same goes for ectopics. If you are very early, it is true that it may not be detectable yet via ultrasound.

I had similar numbers to yours, low and not doubling. It was not eptopic, an early miscarriage. I did have an ultrasound done to rule out eptopic but they couldn't see anything in my tubes or uterus. My doctor said the egg implanted but did not grow. Once my numbers dropped I started bleeding. Have your doctor continue to monitor your hcg numbers and go get checked out if you have any one sided pain.
