I’m a FTM and through genetic testing learned that I am a carrier for hemophilia (type b). Our baby boy has a 50/50 chance of inheriting it. It came as quite the shock as no one in my family has ever had symptoms of hemophilia but we want to be as prepared as possible. We’re opting in to do amniocentesis (the only way to know for sure if our baby inherited it) so we can ensure that we have a proper birth plan in place to accommodate a baby with a bleeding disorder if he has it. There are lots of things we will need to do in advance including meeting with a pediatric hematologist, ensuring the hospital has clotting factor on hand for delivery, and educating ourselves as both my husband and I have no experience with disorder. It is always a tough decision to make but we love our baby boy to the moon and feel amnio will help us be better parents.

Can any Moms who have had this procedure done, share their experience?
