(Trigger warning!!!) Were her parents “in” on it?

AJ

Alright y’all, apologies in advance if this has already been discussed here (I’ve been off this app and not participating in this group for a while)... I just watched Abducted in Plain Sight 😱 and I am SHOCKED, to say the least.

I’ve seen some people say her parents were totally in on it and knew what was going on, but I’m not so sure they actually did.

Perhaps in hindsight, yes they knew deep down something wasn’t right, but I do think they honestly believed they were helping this man and that he was a trusted friend of theirs.

Also as an outsider it can be baffling to think they were so blind and that there’s no way they didn’t know what was going on, but as someone who was controlled by a master manipulator for four years, I know how easy it is to miss the red flags and the make excuses for the manipulator’s behavior and pretty much just live in denial about all the uncomfortable feelings telling you something is off.

So what do y’all think? I’m open to all opinions here, I’d like to get a good discussion going about manipulation in general as well, not just this specific case.
