Had my baby girl in the car!

Ali

Well this is definitely not the birth story I thought I’d be sharing! I’ve read a few of these on the news and always wondered how the heck these women didn’t know they were so close to having their baby, but I totally get it now!

I woke up at 3AM on May 3rd (36 weeks!) with a contraction (honestly pretty sure it was a Braxton Hicks actually!) and thought nothing of it because I’d been having contractions for 2 weeks, after getting steroid injections for my baby girls lungs at 33-34 weeks! I then woke up again around 5:30AM and decided I was probably in labor because my contractions were definitely painful and decently close together. I wake my husband up and he gets some things together while I’m gathering up some last minute stuff. We leave the house by 5:50 and have a 45 minute drive to the hospital. Like 25 minutes outside of town I start to have unbearable back to back contractions, making me almost sick to my stomach. Maybe 10 minutes after this, probably less actually, I tell my husband (actuallllly screaming bloody murder at this point) to pull over because I’m sure we won’t make it to the hospital. I reached down and felt our daughters head at this point.

Sure enough I feel an extreme urge to push, my husband calls 911, and she’s out in two pushes because anyone even gets there! I have the most amazing husband who helped deliver her and keep me calm. When she was born she wasn’t breathing and her cord was wrapped around her neck, which we reached down and unwrapped and thankfully she started crying.

2 weeks later and I’m still in shock that my husband and I did it all by ourselves. This was all over the news where I lived, and there’s body cam footage if anyone wants to watch! Lol. Just google “women delivers baby on side of the road in Iowa” and plenty of articles will pop up 😂

Anyways, my little girl is doing amazing and so are my hubs and I!
