NHS workers?

Question

Just wondering if any of you mamas/mamas to be work for the NHS? 
I'm a nurse (band 6) and have no idea what my maternity pay is going to be and not knowing is  freaking me out a bit. Can anyone shed some light as to what theirs was like or do you know if payroll will even be able to tell me if I call them?

I am a band 5 Paediatric Intensive care nurse qualified for 8years and have had my break down which they only give you when you go onto maternity so it’s a pain in the ass as you can’t prepare! They take an average wage that you have from 15weeks and then calculate what you will get. I wanted mine split equally so each month I get around £2000 apart from the first 2months and last 2months where I get £1500ish and the last month is £137!!! Yours will be more than this I would think if you are full time like I am. I just wish I knew this before going onto maternity as would have done more agency to prepare! You do get your annual leave allowance too but not unsociable apart from the month you go on maternity as they back date it!

If you can pick up extra shifts during your qualifying period, do so, that’s what they will base your baseline wage on! Depending on your length of service you should be getting 2 months of full pay, 4 months of half pay plus SMP and then 6 months SMP only.

I’m not a band 6 so can’t be 100% positive unfortunately, but my close friend is and I think I remember her calculations from payroll coming back at around £1500 per month, not sure what pay point she was on. 
Also, not sure where you are in your pregnancy but try and get as much overtime, bank, weekends as you can between weeks 17-25 as those two months earnings is what your maternity is calculated on!! X

I work for the NHS as a domestic and we get full pay for 6 months then half pay for 3 months then you can have another 3 months unpaid. I also saved up all my annual leave to get an extra month full pay at the end I dont know if it will be the same at your trust but I cant see it being much different :)

Best to check your Trust policy, it will all be in there. I’m in the NHS and with my previous mat leave I got 90% pay for 8 weeks then half pay for 4 months, statutory pay for another 3 months and then 3 months unpaid. You accrue annual leave throughout your mat leave and you can add this to the end of mat leave to extend the time off, and you’ll get paid for annual leave obviously.
