When do you apply sunblock

Question

This is mostly a dumb question but do you sunblock your kid/toddler every time before you go outside? I always sunblock my 2 year old before we go outside every day but I wonder if I’m too over protective with sunblock and should let her get a little sun before I put it on her? She has very fair skin though. Just wondering what other people do

Yes. When the sun is out and it’s hot, we do it every time we’re going to be in the sun for more than a few minutes. And I put a hat on him. My son is 2

Daughter will be 2 next month and has never worn sunblock. She gets about 10 min in full sunlight a day and other than that, we watch the UV ratings and take her out when they’re low or keep her in the shade. We’ve taken her to Disney, the beach and several other places so it doesn’t limit us in any way. Plus, we live in FL so it’s usually always hot and sunny! She’s very fair and has never gotten burned. I am far more concerned with the ingredients of sun block and recent studies showing their dangers. When there comes a time when she would need sunscreen, I will choose a natural, mineral sunscreen or make my own with non-nano zinc oxide and other natural SPF ingredients.

I only put some on if we’re going outside for longer than 10 min. 
If it’s a short outdoor trip, I usually opt to cover her with a light long sleeve and sun hat. Even if it’s super hot out, 10 min covered up won’t bug her too much

We have always applied sunblock to our son if going outside for longer than just a few minutes. We even use bug spray if we plan to be outside, especially in the evenings. We use the little fan thingies that help protect against bugs and they are AMAZING but my 2 year old likes to pull it off and throw it lol. Our pediatrician knows about all of this and approves of it. So we keep doing it. My son has never been burnt and rarely been bit by bugs. I burn so easily, so I decided we needed to protect our babies since they have sensitive skin too. However, I highly recommend talking to your pediatrician and seeing what they advise you to do. We got product recommendations from ours and feel comfortable following her guidance.

My little guy is super fair and I only do it if we’re going outside for a longer activity. I don’t if we’re just out to play for 5-15 minutes, check the mail, bubbles on the deck, pet kitty cat etc.
