Breastfeeding a toddler?

Question

For you mamas who breastfeed past one year, will you share about your experience? How did you balance feeding solids with giving milk? What did you like or not like about extended breastfeeding? Did you dir ect weaning or did your child self-wean?

I’m nursing my 2.5 year old and 2 month old. My 2.5 year old only nurses to bed and will skip a night or two here or there. He will ask when he’s tired and I nurse him and he falls asleep. He doesn’t nap anymore unless we are in the car.  When I was about 4 or 5 months pregnant, I struggled with pain and he still nursed often. We cut out night nursing first and then slowly got it down to once a day. These are my 6th and 7th kids and have nursed all but two as a toddler (my oldest is adopted and my second nursed to 11.5m). Once they hit about 18m, I slowly started cutting them back to just nursing to sleep, naps and bedtime. It worked for us. I love the bond and comfort I can give them but it’s not so often that it drives me crazy.

My 18 month old still nurses before nap and bed, and whenever he's not feeling well he nurses a lot. We use a normal meal and snack schedule and then just nurse after. He doesn't really have cows milk, accept occasionally with meals,  but he's not a huge fan. I'm guessing I'll have to direct wean since he's a big fan of boobs, but for now I'm letting him mostly take the lead.

My kid just turned two. I don’t like that I still have to wear these lousy nursing bras - I can’t wait to get back into my nice, supportive bras. I do like the comfort it gives her and bonding time. She still nurses on demand and I just give her snacks whenever she requests it and then still do the three meals a day.

I breastfed until 22 mos. it was only twice a day for nap and bedtime from 14 mos to 22 mos though. I had to direct weaning because I was 22 weeks pregnant and had a strong nursing aversion at that point. I fed him solids regularly and only nursed him to sleep.

My daughter self weaned at 18 months. I loved it and hated it. I hated it because I felt like my boobs no longer belonged to me and she was attached to me all the time. She never bit me so that wasn't a problem. She ate when we ate and nursed in between and at night. She made the schedule of her nursing and I made the schedule of meals and snacks. That's what worked best. 
I was and wasn't ready for her to wean, she weaned on a trip to visit family. She decided she liked playing with aunt's and uncles and grandparents more than nursing lol
