Are AI assistants sexist?

A recent UN study found that AI assistants such as Amazon Alexa perpetuate negative gender stereotypes. What do you think? Do you think there should also be male voices for this devices? Do you agree that it’s sexist or think it’s not that big of a deal?

I think there’s more important things in the world we can choose to be offended about. Siri is not one of them.  Also, do people not realize you can change the gender of the Siri voice?

I don’t think it’s an issue. There is an option to change the voice to male if you prefer. I’ve had mine changed to an Australian dude for a long time to tease my husband because he would pretend to flirt with Siri. 😂

I don’t know about the other AI assistants, but Siri does have a male voice as an option. Also, I think this article is reaching hard. AI assistants, no matter the gender, are programmed to be helpful and polite. They’re supposed to do as they’re asked. They’re not there to make rude comments back or stand up for themselves if someone is using abusive language. They aren’t people. They’re just little robot voices programmed into a device. It is not that deep.
