Different types of pills?

I'm currently on the generic form of Tri-Sprintec. Have been on and off for seven years. When I'm not on it, I only have 2-3 periods a year (only upside to PCOS, I suppose). When I'm on it, obviously I have a period every month and I can't stand it. I get bloated and my cramps are SO painful that I struggle to breathe through them. Plus, I'm a very sexual person, and not having sex for that whole week kills me. (My boyfriend would be willing, but I'm so uncomfortable and in so much pain that I just can't.)
Are there pills that keep you from having a period every month? I'd be okay with every three months.
