Any teachers in here?

Off topic, but I was just informed that I am supposed to complete the report cards for my 1st grade class. I’m out on maternity leave and using fmla. All my “paid time off” is leave I saved up to use for the 5 weeks I’m out. Does this sound right to you?

I also teach first grade and my long term sub is expected to write the comments and submit grades for my class!

I'm pretty sure they can't do that unless report cards were do before you started your leave. My administrator has made it pretty clear that I'm not allowed to do any of that kind of stuff even if I wanted to.

I’m a high school teacher in Ca. I am not responsible for grading anything so this doesn’t sound right to me. It may be dependent on your district and state

No way. Who ever is covering your class should be doing them. You can't assess the students appropriately of you're not there! My cover teacher does mine!

You definitely shouldn’t have to! I didn’t with either class and my sub has to take care of everything—they shut off my access to gradebook so that the sub could have the class.

No that’s not ok. They can’t make you do that on leave. I was told on leave if I didn’t come into work for an important meeting I could lose my job. I went in and had to bring my lo...I realized later it was illegal for them to do it

I didn’t have to do anything after I went on leave. Since I was a little behind on grading, I ended up entering grades for their final projects while on FMLA, but that was by choice. My administration/academic coaches are handling the report cards and all other tasks in my absence. Once you are on maternity leave, they can’t really require you to do anything.

My school took my computer and unless it’s dire and urgent they won’t contact me (i.e. solidifying next year, interviewing for new positions, etc). I’m pretty sure they can’t do that but every state is different
