Back up plan?

Question

My son is due in three weeks. I plan on solely breastfeeding for the first 3 to 4 weeks and then introducing the bottle (with breast milk) to get ready for returning to work. 
First, should I have formula/bottles home and ready for when he’s born? Just in case things don’t work out the way I’ve planned?
Second, if not, I’m assuming I should probably wait and sterilize the bottles until we’re ready for then, correct?

I think it’s a good idea to have some formula and bottles ready just in case. I planned on exclusively breastfeeding my now 4 month old but ended up introducing formula at day 4 when her weight dropped seriously due to milk transfer problems. We didn’t have anything on hand and I didn’t know the first thing about formula, which was really stressful at the time (especially because I was so upset about her weight and needing to introduce formula). 
I would wait to sterilize bottles until the baby is here and you’re ready to use them. I’m a little less conservative now that my baby is older, but it’s a good idea to be careful when they’re so little. 
I didn’t do this, but I would consider toughening up your nipples prior to giving birth. The breastfeeding pain for me was SO intense and took away from the joy of a new baby.

I say no. If your baby gets the hang of a good latch trust your body to provide for them. It is very had work sore and tiring but once yous get over the first few weeks it is the best feeling in the world. Do your research babies nurse for so many different reasons not just for milk. This will help to increase your milk to their needs. It took my LG 3 weeks to gain her weight back and neither midwife or health visitor were concerned as this is very normal.

I would just in case. I had a plan to EBF and didnt buy one bottle or formula but ended up supplementing because i felt baby wasnt getting enough and the pain. We now do both breast and formula but trying to get off the formula.  You just never know how things will turn out

No harm in having them but please research cluster feeding before baby comes - this is why most people quit or start supplementing when they don’t need to
