What do I do to heal a belly ring bump?

A few days ago I went to get an x-ray and they told me to take off my belly button ring, which is two months old, so it’s not completely healed yet. I went to put it back in but it would just slide around inside my skin instead of out the top of the hole. So I tried to do it backwards, but the ring is now upside down and I don’t mind that it looks silly. My issue is that now I have an irritated red bump near the area. Does anyone know any tips on how to heal it?
