My daughter is here! And I'm terrified.

Katrina

I went to the hospital for some bleeding. Turns out to be nothing, but my blood pressure is through the roof and my blood work is off. So they admitted me with the intention to induce me in the morning. My cervix was still closed and nowhere near ready for labor, so they started me on meds to soften it.

Around 1am, my water broke and I was at 3cm already! They started a heart monitor and thought it was doubling her heart rate because it was saying it was around 300. Double checked with an ultrasound and she was definitely in distress. From the time they decided to do an emergency c section till she was here was a total of 21 minutes. They put me under to avoid any complications from my blood pressure.

I woke up and was on oxygen for a few hours. I didn't get to see my daughter (other than pictures my husband took) until they finally moved me and I was alright without the oxygen. She was perfect.

Her heart rate had stabilized and she was sleeping peacefully. But they wanted to keep an eye on her, so I went to my room without her. A few hours later, I was able to go and feed her. The poor thing couldn't quite get the hang of sucking and breathing at the same time and had to be forced to take breaks so her oxygen levels didn't drop.

I returned to my room and spent a few hours just waiting on them to decide that I could have her with me. Then the pediatrician came in and told me that her heart rate spiked again. This time to over 200. They were transferring her to a children's hospital a half hour away to be seen by a cardiologist. Luckily, her heart rate dropped to normal before they left, but they still took her for observation.

And now we wait. I'm being allowed to leave in the morning so we can go up there and be with her. I'm a nervous wreck and am barely holding it together on the inside. I can't stop looking at the pictures of my beautiful little girl.

UPDATE: They still don't have a definite answer for what's wrong and are still testing. But they think that she has an extra node in her heart that's being set off by the 2nd node and it's setting the 2nd off again in a loop. They want to train us on how to check her heart, infant cpr and give us a heart monitor for when she's asleep so we'll know if her heart rate spikes again. So far she hasn't had any more episodes, though and this could go away on its own. But they're going to be keeping her for a while.

Meanwhile, my doctor is keeping me here for at least another day due to high blood pressure. So I may get to see her tomorrow.
