What does a faint line actually mean?

So I’ve heard that a faint line means it’s positive but I also have heard that no matter if your pregnant or not you will get a faint line. Which one is true???

 No way can u get a faint line when u are not pregnant

Faint lines mostly happen when you test early. It’s hard to be sure if what you’re seeing is a line because you’re pregnant or a line from an indent in the test or a faulty/low quality test. But by a few days later, the test should be dark enough to really KNOW it’s a positive. Here’s a pic of my “faint line” during this pregnancy:
