Medroxyprogesterone help! So confused

So I just finished my 5th month off my birth control but my periods haven’t come back as normal. They’re very light and mostly spotting. I do get positive opks each cycle. Although the past 2 cycles the positives were delayed. My dr wants me to take medroxyprogesterone for 10 days in my next cycle. I really don’t understand why he wants me to take this. Will it interfere with my ovulating? Will I still be able to get pregnant while taking this?

I asked questions but he kind of beat around the bush on them.

I’m just terrified to take another hormone since it’s already been a roller coaster stopping birth control. I swore I wouldn’t take anymore bc or hormones again 😩
