How long did you wait to start ttc again after first child?

Hi everyone! We have a 5 month old baby and we are already talking about having a second child! I was wondering how long did you wait to start ttc the second child and if you want to write the reason for that age difference in the comments that would be great!

We wanted to wait until our first was 12 months butttt God decided otherwise and got pregnant when my first was 5 months so they are 13 months apart. But again, if it was up to me I would have waited until my first was a year to start trying so he would be more independent when we had a newborn because two babies that can’t talk etc is hard

It is especially difficult on a woman’s body and increases the rate of complications for both mom and baby to conceive in under a year. Ideally you would wait until at least 18 months post birth to conceive to decrease the likelihood of short interval pregnancy anemia and have a fully healed uterus and cervix. This is why most docs talk about birth control before you leave the hospital or at least at your post partum visit.

I wanted my kids to be about 2 years apart, me and my brother are 3 years apart and it always felt like too much. Since it took us some time and a MC to conceive our first, we started trying as soon as i got my first period 10 months postpartum. Well, we got lucky and conceived first try! The kids will be 19 months apart. My first is almost 18 months now, can walk and express what he wants to an extent so it feels definitely less scary than when I found out I was pregnant and I had a 10-month-old. I can do this! (But as previous poster said, my body is much weaker as it didn’t have enough time to regenerate between the pregnancies.)

We always talked about a 2-3 year age gap. I wasn't sure it would work out because up until my girl turned 2, I was NOT ready for another one. She was a difficult baby and a bad sleeper, so I just wasn't ready to potentially handle that again yet. Right after my daughter's 2nd birthday, we moved into a new place bigger house so we had the room for another child, so it seemed like a good time. Financially we were fine, etc. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage a few months after that, but was lucky enough to conceive again a few months later. This baby will be born about a month or so after our daughter's 3rd birthday, so our timeline will still work out.
