husband changed life insurance beneficiary to me

we are newly wedded and he emailed me a pdf of his life insurance stating that the beneficiary changed to me. i am curious who it was for before we married but i don’t have the courage to ask him. i wonder if it was for his ex-girlfriend... but they weren’t married so would he have loved her enough to buy life insurance for her to be the beneficiary of? i just want to know but i’m not sure if that’s a good enough reason to ask... doesn’t change what happened in the past if i do find out, and doesn’t change anything for me to know except to just not be curious anymore...

or what if it was his parents or sister that were the beneficiaries before? i don’t know...

*UPDATE* i couldn’t hold it in. i was so nervous and asked when he got home from work and it was his mom. she bought it for him and put herself as the beneficiary. now that we’re married, she reminded him to change it to me. relieved 😅
