Not to be discouraging but my husband was a truck driver when our daughter was born. We would video chat daily and he would talk to her but when he was home, she wouldn't want a whole lot to do with him. It was like she didnt know who he was even though she technically saw him and heard his voice every day. The older she got, the better it seemed to be but he finally gave up that job and being away from home when she was a year old cause he hated the feeling that he was a stranger to her. 
At the same time, children are resilient and when he was home for a few days, she would warm up to him. By the time he left out again, she knew exactly who he was. We just had to do it all over again every time he came home.

It’ll definitely be tough for him, but when he’s back it won’t take long to get back to where they were if it does change.
