Should I wake my baby to eat?

My baby will be one week old tomorrow. She has been such an angel and I’ve been on top of feeding her setting an alarm every three hours to wake myself and do so. Each time I wake her up , change her and then feed her about 2.5 oz of breast milk. (I pump because her latch wasn’t great)  my boyfriend thinks I should wait til she wakes to feed her. I was thinking of maybe feeding her a little more and waking her every 4 hours instead of three? I’m a first time mom and I’m just a worry worst. What do you guys think? What did you do with your child during the night?

You don’t have to wake her to feed her unless she slows down on gaining weight. Get what sleep you can, but set an alarm for 5 hours or so to make sure she is getting what she needs. Just watch her weight, and make sure she continues to thrive. Get some sleep mamma. You deserve it. Babies are good at telling you when they’re hungry. Even being little, she has cues. Let her tell you. Just keep an eye on her at the same time.

I was told to feed every 2-3 hours when they are a newborn. Their blood sugar can drop and they won’t be able to wake themselves up. That said, there were a few times where I accidentally slept past my alarm for an extra 30 minutes or hour and it was okay.

I was told that once my baby reached and surpassed their birth weight, then it wasn’t necessary to wake them for a feed unless it had been more than 5 hours, at that age. 
I never woke my daughter for a feed, and she still gained weight consistently.

Ped told me never to wake a sleeping baby unless there’s a medical concern that they have to eat for. (Poor or no weight gain, jaundice, etc.)
