Breakthrough Bleeding

I frequently experience breakthrough bleeding during sex and sometimes even masturbation. I also have very long and irregular cycles with periods that can last anywhere from 5 to 12 days. I'm making an appointment with a gyno and in conversations with my mother she says it sounds like estrogen dominance. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it sounds familiar? If so, how did you treat it?
