Successful VBAC
Baby born via successful VBAC. Was having contractions starting Sunday night that were timeable and pretty intense but would stay between 6-10 mins apart then get less intense or go away during the day. More intense every night. Wednesday night I had a feeling this was going to be it and sure enough around 11pm was woken up to contractions again that were consistently 6min apart. Stayed in bed trying to sleep through them since I didn't want to go in too early and we are right down the street from the hospital. Around 1am got up to take a shower because sometimes with the pre labor that would help. As soon as I walked around a bit, the contractions got closer to 3 mins apart so I told my husband to get up and if he wanted to take a shower before going to the hospital we should take one together because we were most likely leaving when I was dressed. Contractions stayed about 3 mins apart when I was getting ready and my husband called the hospital and they told us to come in. Grabbed our son out of bed and off we went! Once we got there, contractions stayed about 5 mins apart. In laws came to pick up our son. Was monitored for a few hours and admitted. Just a finger to dialated and 80% effaced but due to regular contractions and attempting a VBAC they didn't want to send me home. I waited until I was 6cm for pain management and started with nitrous while I waited to get the epidural because I wanted to be able to move around etc. Contractions were strong but since I was induced last time, was manageable when compared. Just wanted the pain management for the active labor/pushing plus wanted to be able to sleep. Total labor was about 30.5 hours followed by 4 hours of pushing. My epidural only really worked on the left side but they were really good about getting the anesthesia worked out so I didn't feel much during the laboring phase. Although it took a while, it was very pleasant. However, they wouldn't adjust it when it got to pushing and then the meds in the epidural ran out completely for a while so I felt everything, was not my plan. But so empowred and amazed that my body was able to go through labor on my own (was offered a small dose of pitocin to speed it up but declined because I didn't think I needed it and was right). And although pushing was rough, and I was exhausted, the second my son was born was the most amazing thing and to be able to be up walking around a few hours later was totally worth it. So glad I opted for VBAC, although during pushing I was cursing myself for not scheduling a repeat c section. Picture below of my 2 boys ❤️
