Anybody getting their baby boy circumcised? &why?

Went to the hospital visit and the nurse asked me but I said I was unsure... what’s the pros and cons? And is it necessary? What is it even for?

I think the best thing for you to do is research pros and cons and make an informed decision that aligns with you and your spouses beliefs/wants, etc. :) We can all give you our reasons to or not to, but they may not make sense for you and your family!

Definitely not necessary. The official American Academy of Pediatrics say there is not evidence to support that circumcision provides any benefit to the child, nor evidence to support that it causes harm. So basically, it is optional and meaningless, from a health standpoint. People that do it usually do it either to conform to a social norm, a religious belief, or because they are misinformed and believe it is healthier.
As a sexual health scientist myself, I am not going to be choosing this for my son. If he will be equally healthy either way, I don't see why I would default to unnecessary surgery on my newborn's genitals.

People can be very opinionated on this and often think one way is right and the other is wrong, but it's fairly subjective. Someone else already gave one polarizing opinion, so I'll offer briefly the other side (I've been on both sides opinion wise before). 
Elderly males can have difficulty maintaining cleanliness down there and not being circumsized can lead to a much more painful outcome at this age than if it were done as a baby. Resulting infections especially in assisted living facilities or nursing homes with poor ability for self care are unfortunately not rare.

Personally, we didn't question it. Daddy is circumcised so that's what prompted us to go through it with our first son when he was born. We will be getting it done with this baby boy as well.

My husband was 100% certain about circumcising. He is, our first son was, this little boy will be also. It’s much more common here in the US but it is fading out because of the stigma around it. It was our personal choice to do so.

I'm having a baby girl, but voted yes because my first child (boy) was and any future boys will also be circumcised. Just a personal decision that I allow my husband to make 😬🤗

My sister did not and my nephew had to have surgery because of an infection where he could barely get the pee put even though they cleaned it but the surgery was harder for him at 5 to deal with and make sure it was cleaned and healing properly after. That’s one reason for my personal decision. Second his dad is so he supports the decision and he would not have a lot of knowledge to share with him when it comes to cleaning and sex Ed. Thirdly I worked with a lot of elderly men and it can cause them issues later on and having the surgery at that point in life won’t always make the situation better and may pose more risk than if it had been done at a healthier point in life. But saying that you could always explain that to them as they are growing up and let it be their decision. My other nephew wasn’t until after 6 months because his pee hole was on top of his penis instead of at the tip and they wanted to see if it would naturally correct itself but it didn’t so they had to do reconstruction and in the process circumcision was necessary because the skin was too tight. 
There isn’t any right or wrong answer to this one it’s just what you think is best for them and everyone is different but no one is or should judge you for what you choose as a parent.

Here in the Uk it’s only done for religious reasons. Personally its not my penis to mess with. I understand there’s a very strong cultural reason to get it done in America which is fine but there is zero health benefits. Having a complete foreskin does not prevent cleaning or cause infection old or young. As long as you wash yourself regularly alls good. Otherwise British care homes would be full of old men with infections down there and it’s simply not the case. In the US it’s a parents decision so go with how you feel but it is only a cultural normal not a health thing.

Dad is circumcised and he wants to. I don’t have a penis, so left it to him.
