The numbers on the contraction monitor don't always necessarily correlate to the strength of the contraction. Also, the baseline for the monitor (called a "toco") is elevated to begin with. It looks like it bottoms out to 30-40, so if it went up to 60, that's really not that much. If the toco baseline were 5-10, and then it jumped up to 60 that'd be more. If you're preterm, they don't care unless it's 6 or more contractions an hour, preferably of moderate intensity. If you're term and wanting to get admitted for labor, you're definitely not contracting enough. They want to see cervical change, not just a couple contractions. Overall, this strip looks pretty uneventful and probably warrants a Vistaril pill and some sleep. Oh, and fluids at home.

My nurses told me that contractions would look more like a hill than a peak. That is usually baby movement or my movement.
