Unexpected C section, but way better recovery than expected!
Hi!
I loved reading birth stories and thought I’d post mine. We had a terrible hail storm around 4 am Tuesday morning. I stood up and felt a couple of gushes and saw water running down to both ankles. I wasn’t sure if it was my water, so I peed, then laid back down. At 5 am, I got back up to pee and the same thing happened. I didn’t have any contractions or any other symptoms.
At 6 am, I called my OB and she said that I didn’t need to come in right away with no other symptoms, but to make an appointment for today. I took the day off from work and on a hunch, ran some errands including dropping off our dog.
I went to my appointment and my doctor confirmed that my water had broken. She sent me over to Labor and Delivery. By 3:30 pm on Tuesday, I was started on 12 hours worth of Cytotec. My IV placement was honestly one of the worst parts of my stay-it took 5 nurses and 3 attempts :(
At 4 am Wednesday, I had gone from 1 cm to 5 cm. They then started Pitocin. By 11 am on Wednesday, I was 7 cm and really excited. Unfortunately, they maxed out Pitocin to what my baby could tolerate and I never progressed beyond 7 cm. My OB came by and we talked about my water had been broken now for over 40 hours and I was at risk for infection and already spiking low fevers. So, I didn’t want a C section, but I got one.
They got our little Jack out quickly and we learned why I didn’t progress-his head was 15 cm!! He was born at 7 pm on Wednesday 05/29 and was due 05/31.
The hospital stay was stressful bc our boy had high risk jaundice and needed lights, but we’re home now!
Also, I have had ZERO PAIN from my c section. Literally zero. I’ve only taken Tylenol or ibuprofen since the surgery and I only need a couple of doses a day. I was so scared of c section recovery, but mine has been a breeze. Just wanted to reassure others who might be afraid of c section recovery! We are so in love with our boy and are so happy he’s here!
