Anyone take prenatal vitamins before getting pregnant? If so why? Just wondering if I should start taking them! Thanks!

My dr recommended it as well. I miscarried in Feb and he said it would help my uterus heal quicker and once I got cleared to start trying again in April he said the folic acid helps fetus’ development once conceived.

You should be taking that and DHA fish oil. It’s to promote healthy growth. The fish oil helps develop baby’s brain. It’s okay if you don’t but it’s really good if you do take both before to support a healthy development for future baby. By the time we find out we are pregnant baby has already started developmental process.

Prenatal vitamins don’t help you get pregnant. Unless you’re not ovulating because of severe vitamin deficiencies. (Very rare in developed countries).
The real reason to take them ahead of time is the folic acid. The tube that forms the baby’s brain grows and closes at week 5. If you have a folic acid deficiency, it may not close all the way and can result in birth defects like spinal bifida and cleft palate. 
At 5 weeks, you might know you’re pregnant (if you’re like me and test at 11 DPO) but sometimes women ovulate early, or have low HCG and don’t get a positive until three-four days after their missed period. Or maybe you take a break from trying for few month and then realize suddenly you’re a week late. 
At any rate, you need folic acid and you need it very early in pregnancy so start taking your prenatal right away. Some foods are fortified (bread) but you might not get enough in your diet. 
The other vitamins are important too, but folic acid is closely linked to specific birth defects.
