Breathing too fast??

Question

So earlier today, my friend and my dad both said something about how fast my 5 week old was breathing while he was sleeping. I counted his breaths for a minute and I got 86. Is this too fast? I’m thinking about calling his pediatrician tomorrow morning and seeing what she says. I just hope there is nothing wrong with him. Has this happened to anyone else??

That’s completely normal for new babies!! Baby is fine but if it makes you feel better to call the pediatrician then do so.

I would definitely have your baby checked out. A friend of mine took her baby in for rapid breathing and a few other symptoms and he ended up being diagnosed with a heart defect that went undiagnosed. Her baby did have other symptoms like excessive spit bubbles and failure to gain wait.

If it were me with my newborn, I would be seeking medical advice. Typically newborns breath 30-60 breaths per min, so 86 to me is high.
It might not be serious, but I would still seek medical advice. For example, my son experienced fast breathing (when he was 14months) , turned out to be a virus - they gave him Pamol (like American Tylenol) and his breathing came down.

Yes my little one is also 5 weeks and breathes very fast. I've brought it up to the pediatrician since he was born and he wasn't concerned at all.
