So a little back story. I am high risk for preterm due to an IC, my first came at 34 weeks 6 days, then I lost twins and I got pregnant with my rainbow who came at 37 weeks and 2 days. With her I had stopped makena and removed cerclage at 36 weeks and of course a week after I had her.

Which brings me to this pregnancy I was EBF and found out I was pregnant when I was 9 month PP which me especially being higher risk for preterm should wait at least 18 months to have a baby because I would run a much higher risk of MC or having a preterm baby.

Well fast forward to this pregnancy at 29 weeks I went into preterm and I was 2cm dilated, had to get my cerclage removed because it was pulling. They stopped contractions and they sent me home on my continued bed rest. I get to 32 weeks and I have to get my contractions stopped again, at this point I’m 2.5 cm and 40 % effaced and the baby was very low.

I kept taking my makena shots and was placed on procardia to control my contractions up until I turned 36 weeks. Being high risk I started makena at 16 weeks with every pregnancy and at 20 weeks I also start to see my MFM every two weeks for by weekly growth scans and to check on my cervix. Since I had gone into labor twice already with this pregnancy my Obgyn and MFM doctor decided to start weekly checks ups at 32 weeks and was being monitored closely. At 35 weeks I was 3.5 cm and 80 % effaced with baby sitting low and at this point I was just trying to hold on to at least 37 weeks. Then 36 weeks came I was told to stop makena and my procardia and I was 4cm and fully effaced.

37 weeks came and had my same progress but baby now was sitting at a station 1 and I was having regular contractions but the hospital would not admit me unless my contractions were changing my cervix or my water broke. My doctor went ahead and did a light sweep at his appointment which did not do anything at all. 38 weeks comes around Tuesday and I was so excited I made it because everyone thought I would go earlier, which I thank god I didn’t because this is the furthest I’ve gotten with my pregnancies. So my doctor does a very good sweep this time she said I would most like go I to labor within the next 48 hours.

I went home, had sex, walked, went up and down stairs, bounced on my call, ate spicy noodles, and finally took a warm bath. All night all I felt was u comfortable and couldn’t sleep at all and I felt nothing at all but crampy and I had no spotting. I thought the sweep wasn’t going to work. Woke up Wednesday morning and used the restroom still no spotting, so again I thought it didn’t work. So I go to the living room and start digging in a box while squated down (we are packing to move ) and when I stood up I felt wet so I run to the restroom and it’s my whole mucus plug with bloody show. Mind you I had been losing mucus since around 29 weeks but no spotting and of course it regenerates. So after this the rest of the day every time I wipe Im having bloody show. I start to get contractions but nothing to go I. For yet as they were coming super far apart. I gave my doctor a call and she told me to go in at 12:45 pm to get checked.

12:45 comes around and my doctor checks me and she says I’m almost 5cm and all I have to do was wait for my water to break or contractions to pick up. At around 3:35 my contractions were coming every 5 minutes. At around 6:50 or so I decided to head to the hospital. I tell my husband to drop me off and go back home with the kids until I know what’s going to happen. Get to the hospital at 7:30 pm and they took me back and start to monitor me. So when I get there she tells me I’m a 4 and I go well I got checked earlier and I was closer to a 5 but I know it can be due to the doctors finger size so I was just like whatever (I’m a L&D nurse and yes due to fingers being different sizes sometimes that’s why we get different measurements on dilation depending on who’s checking you. ) so the nurse hooks me up and of course my contractions start to die down, I was so disappointed ! The ER Obgyn was in the middle of a c section and took about two hours upstairs so I was able to get monitored for one extra hour. At this point contractions started back to back and finally when the doctor came I was a 5 and was finally being admitted.

12 am I got admitted my husband got here with our 6 year old and my 17 month old stayed at a friends house. They bring me a birthing ball and I sit on it for the entire labor. I’m swaying side to side concentrating on my breathing and working through contractions and all of a sudden I start to get nauseous and with every contraction I’m throwing up. I have an IV on already because i am getting antibiotics since I was gbs positive and I got some zofran. At around 3 I tell the nurse I’m feeling pressure so she lays me down and checks me and my babies head is literally right there I was just waiting for her to finish dilating me I was an 8 at that point. So 3:45 my water breaks and like 10 minutes later I get checked again and it’s go time. Nurses start strong up they called my doctor which was 10 minutes out. 4 am and i tell my husband i feel like she’s coming out can you check so he checks and he says he sees nothing. Like two minutes later I tell my nurse my body is pushing her out alone so she says try not to push your doctor is 5 minutes out. I tell my husband get the phone ready to record and all of a sudden I’m screaming her head is out and the nurses rush to me and then her body just slipped right after on to the bed. Baby girl didn’t even let me push lol at 4:09 am Hailey Grace was born. I was in shock I think everyone was. I’ve always had fast labors with my first it was two hours and 11 minutes of pushing and my second it was 4 hours and 2 minutes of pushing. But Hailey had won the cake 4 hour labor and literally came on her own. It was a crazy experience, I have had unmedicated birth with all three but this time the vomiting was totally new. And just like that my baby girl came at 38 weeks and 3 days furthest pregnancy I’ve had. ❤️
