Vaginitis but a Virgin???

My doctor diagnosed me with vaginitis and gave me antibiotics. I finished my last pill two days ago but I think the symptoms are still there, discharge and itching. I just looked up vaginitis and it’s says that it happens when someone first becomes sexually active (labeling vaginitis as a sexually transmitted infection) but I am still a virgin. I’m worried that I was misdiagnosed!!!! I think I just had a plain old yeast infection not vaginitis but I’m not sure how any of this works!? Has anyone ever had vaginitis before?

Information can vary, but it can honestly happen at any age, regardless of sexual activity. It's typically caused (according to my ob/gyn) due to an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, usually caused by a change in ph. The normal balance of bacteria in the vaginal is havey on aerobic bacteria. They produce hydrogen peroxide (in small amounts) as part of their life cycle, which keeps anaerobic bacteria in check. 
That change in ph is most often caused by sexual activity, or at the end of your period. Men's sperm is a different ph than the that of a happy vag, and so is the ph of the shedding endometrium. 
Chronic stress, poor diet, high sugar/processed carb consumption, and having a messed up intestinal system can also contribute to a messed vag ph.

I’ve had it. It can be transmitted sexually but not usually. It’s a common issue. I got it after having a yeast infection that I didn’t know I had. It took 2 rounds of antibiotics FYI.
