Is it better to tear or be cut?

I heard so many mixed reviews on this! Which do u think is better, or have had experience with?

The ob practice that u went to has a policy that they do not perform episiotomies unless they have to use a vacuum or forceps. It's much easier to heal from a natural tear.

I started to tear with my first so they cut me. Felt good as new 2 weeks pp. my second they let me tear and I tore at the top and bottom, both 2nd degree and I'm still hurting at 4 weeks pp

I had heard you could tear backwards or forwards (into your labia) so, although It would have been nice to avoid it altogether, I okay'd being cut over tearing naturally.  I am not sure what degree my cut was, but at 5 weeks pp, I feel pretty much healed.

I started to tear with my son, so they cut me the rest of the way. With my daughter, I tore in 3 different places and there was no cutting involved. I feel like my recovery time was quicker with my son than with my daughter.

I've inly experienced an episiotomy but and I know everyone says its better to tear but the thought of tearing freaked me out when a nice clean cut made me feel better less grossed out. I remember hearing a nurse label is a 2nd degree episiotomy. Honestly it was only rough for the first few days. Within a week there was no pain and I could wipe instead of dabbing in the bathroom. Now I'm two weeks pp and it's like nothing even happened down there.

I've never been cut but I had a 2nd degree tear and labia abrasion that took 16 weeks to heal!! I was miserable!! I literally had to regrow skin on my entire left labia majora which was sooooo painful! My sisters C-Section was less painful and took less than half the time to heal. I told my doctor not to cut me though so maybe if she did I wouldn't have had such a bad recovery. It's hard to say!

My first they cut me it took forever for the stiches to heal almost 3-4 weeks. My second I only had a small tear that only needed one stitch, I'm two weeks postpartum an it is already healed up the spot is just a tiny bit tender if I wipe to hard down there.

I'd rather take the chance at tearing naturally. Only because in the end, I didn't tear so if I would have let them cut me, I would have unnecessary stitches.
