When did you get a phone/give your kid a phone

When they start doing things on their own, like walking home from school. But that will be only for emergencies. They can get a phone get a personal phone when they can afford one.

I don’t have kids but I think it would depend on the situation. For example, I got a TracFone when I was like 8 (?) because I went with my dad every other weekend and he wouldn’t let me call my mom from his phone 🙃 
But also I would say that’s a good age for safety reasons nowadays. They don’t need a smart phone but just something they can call/text an adult in case of an emergency.

I got one with minimal minutes at 15 and it was only because my mom forgot to pick me up from a dance and I was stuck outside alone for like 2 hours with no way to reach her 😂 I didn’t get an “unlimited” phone until I was probably 17

when i was 12 i got a hand me down phone and when i was 13 or 14 i got my brothers hand me down iphone. but since then i’ve been on my own when buying phones (but my mom still pays the monthly bill at age 19)

I’ve had two flip phones from when I was about 7 or 8 until I was 10 so I could talk to my dad while at my moms a vice versus. I got my first smart phone at the beginning of 5th grade and it was just a shitty android but for a while it was my everything. Eventually my dad fucked it up to much with all the parental controls and thenI dropped it and I cracked. My mom got me another phone for Christmas because I could barely use my old one and right now I have an IPhone xr.

I think 13 is a good age. At that point they're close to, if not in high school and everyone has one to communicate. If I had children, that's probably when they would get one, that's when I got mine.
