Benadryl to sleep??

I know everything online says not to give a baby Benadryl to sleep. My aunt was telling me how she gave all 3 of her kids Benadryl to sleep when they were babies. Only reason I’m concerned is because my daughter doesn’t go to sleep til midnight to 2am. If she’s hungry she screams and screams her head off til she eats. This is all no big deal and we handle it well, she’s only 3 months old. Only reason I’m wondering what I can do to make her sleep earlier is Tuesday morning at 6:30 am she has an MRI and she is supposed to fast for 8 hours. I’m concerned that she will be screaming all night long because she’s hungry and won’t be able to sleep 😭

You just hold her and comfort her. Do not give a baby Benadryl. Just because someone says they did it and their kid is fine does NOT mean it’s okay.

It’s never ok to drug your baby to make them sleep regardless of the reason and no matter who else did it before.

You are not even supposed to give Benadryl to babies under 2, without Dr’s order. Give baby a pacifier, hush, rock, sing, let them
Suck on your finger whatever helps but don’t give Benadryl.

I would call her doctor and ask. Benadryl is not for children that young except in dire circumstances but your doctor may give you other directions for something like this. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It can’t hurt to voice your concerns and see if there’s anything else they recommend

Is she supposed to fast because of sedation she’ll be receiving? If this is why then you should ask to speak to an anesthesiologist. I work in surgery and we allow formula up to 6 hours and breast milk up to 4 hours before. I know it’s only a couple hours difference but it really could make your night much easier.

I’ve read too much benedryl can lead to Alzheimer’s and memory issues later in life.  That is a drug for allergies not sleeping!

My oldest was the same but your just gonna have to deal with her screaming all night cause 3 months is to young for that type of medicine

There is no reason to drug a child to sleep, none. Especially that 3 months old when it's biologically normal for them to not sleep like an adult

3 months is way too young for benadryl.
There is never a reason to drug a child to sleep. That is just going to create more long term issues and sleep dependencies in the future
