What to do when they say something bad?

Do you ignore what they’re saying or yell at them? My son has been saying shut up because I tell our dog to shut up sometimes when he won’t stop barking 😬😬😬 and now he’s saying the word psycho when he’s mad... because i tell my husband he’s acting like a psycho when he’s being crazy. Not looking for mom guilt. I’ve stopped using these words... but should I ignore him until he forgets or should I yell at him for using those words?

No yelling required. Just calmly explain to him the words are not nice and can hurt peoples feelings or make them sad. 
Now that our toddlers are picking up on everything we say, it is a good time to reflect on the words we may not want to be a part of our everyday usage. I definitely use some choice phrases here and there and I must have not noticed doing it in front of my son because he definitely said it. At first he was excited to use this bad phrase but after an explanation and a couple reminders he got over it. Easy peasy. I am sure I will let another phrase slip and he will go through the same thing. Not to worry!

I tell her “that’s not very nice” in my stern voice. Which usually makes her cry. My daughter is very sensitive to that sort of thing though. Some kids are super sensitive to that sort of discipline and others couldn’t care less. The down side is if she catches me saying whatever it is again she will tell me “that’s not very nice”. 
It’s super annoying to hear my words back at me. Lol.

I say, “you do not talk to mommy like that.” If he does it again I put him in the corner and make him face the wall. I again tell him he does not speak to mommy like that.

Why are your choices to yell or to ignore it?
We dont yell but we dont ignore it.
We use peaceful parenting. 
I tell my cat to shut her mouth hundreds of times a day..my daughter tells the cat to "shut up right now". If she says it to ME or my husband or anyone else thats not an animal,  we explain that we don't talk like that to mommy, daddy or other people.
However,  "shut up" is not a bad thing to learn to say.. and they should absolutely know to use it in the right context. 
As far as what you do about them saying actual bad words, like "fuck" for example...they WILL say it eventually, sooner rather than later. Why? Because no matter how much you try to not expose them to such words, sometimes the inevitable happens when you least expect it. You tell them it's a bad word and to not use it.
For example- I was at whole foods the other day.. and someone dropped something while we were all waiting in line at the cashier, to pay. The person said :" FUCK!!" ( in a moment of frustration because they just dropped a jar of jam and it's all broken and all over the floor).. my daughter and I, were behind him.. what does my daughter say 10 seconds later? You guessed it ..she says "FUCK"!! and starts laughing.. everyone in line looked at the guy, because it was obviously his fault my daughter said it..someone behind me even mouthed under their breath " I wish people would stop cussing like this. This child is now gonna repeat it forever ".
Was I angry? Nope. This will happen. I might not be cussing in our household, but reality is that in this world, people in general, use cuss words- often. 
Our kids are still too young to know right from wrong. They just repeat everything at this stage. They will end up repeating everything they you say at home. 
And because you say it, they think it's ok for them to say it too. And they are in fact correct. If you can say it, why cant they? They are too young to understand that we only tell animals to shut up, when they make noise. 
As far as saying the word "psycho "...well, if you call your husband that, obviously your child will pick it up and use it..so stop using it..
Your child is like a sponge at this stage. They are NOT doing anything wrong by repeating everything. They dont deserve to be yelled at for the same thing you tell your dogs, cats or husband. Why? Because they are not old enough to understand that you telling your dog to shut up, is not the same as him telling you the same thing. 
So educate, but they are still too young. 
Instead of telling your animals to shut up, tell them to "be quiet". Your child will then repeat be quiet,  instead of shut up..so less "rude" if you may. 
And stop calling your spouse a psycho. Even joking is not nice. Or at least dont saying loud enough for your child to ear it. 
That's if you want to correct the behavior.

1. DON’T laugh. Hardest part of parenting in my book. 
2. Don’t make a huge deal out of it. Either give a different phrase to use/gently correct it or explain that the words could hurt someone. Example, i was telling a story about a time I was verbally accosted (hilarious story involving a guy with a foot fetish) and I said “then he said “Fuck you, do you understand that!?” And I wasn’t thinking, but my son was quietly playing on the floor and he said “Fuck You” and I just calmly said “no honey, mommy said ‘forget you’” and he said “ooh forget you”. It was like I was just teaching him how to say a new word. 
3. Once you realize there’s a word or phrase they’ve picked up on, try your best to stop using it. If you can’t, try to teach them that it’s not ok to for them to use it, that it’s “grown up” language, but don’t get mad at them for using it because they’re doing what they’re meant to do and mimicking the adults around them. 
4. I personally don’t give a fuck of my kid curses, as long as it’s not to insult someone. Eg “oh shit!” Versus “you’re a dick”. So I focus more on not using mean curse words, and don’t stress about exclamation-y curses. I’d much rather my son say “fuck” than “you bitch”.

My son started saying ass and I just explained to him it's a bad word I said you can say bottom so he knows that now and won't say it. I always said I wasn't gonna stop saying ass shit and a few others when I had kids that I would just teach them not to say it.

We had this with a word my son picked up. I made a point of saying ‘no, don’t say that word’ every time and have him learn a much nicer alternative. He tested me for a few weeks but I was persistent and now he doesn’t say that word at all. Needless to say, it taught me a lesson as well 😂
