I had one with my first but it only numbed my right leg, so ended up on gas and air for the end of labour

I did in the end! Was having horrid contractions for a few days and was sooo tired! They insisted I hve the epidural and because I was dog tired, I agreed and only had it at the end because once they broke my waters after giving me the epidural, it was time to push they said! I really didn’t want one originally, no idea if it really helped but jeez the catheter caused me lots of pain and issues after baby was here 😰 I don’t want one again after that so opting for a water birth but not sure what other drugs I’ll have along with it but my midwife highly recommended a water birth as it seems to be a natural pain relief in itself so I hope she’s right! I know I loved labouring in the water so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I never wanted one. After being in labour for 16 hours and not even dilating a single CM I was demanding one. I then laboured very very quickly and as they were putting it in I was pushing. It didn’t have time to kick in and come straight back out. I’ve suffered really bad with my back since and wouldn’t have one if I had another baby. Gas and air is AMAZING
