Would you want to know your SO’s credit score prior to marriage?
Here’s why I’m asking. I saw it being asked on FB but everyone was saying “I didn’t marry their credit score.”
Personally, financial stability was a BIG checker on both myself and my husbands marriage checklist. We wanted to go into our marriage without worrying about not being able to get a house, car etc due to credit scores not being up to par. Plus, one of the leading cause of divorce is lack of financial stability. We both married with 700+ scores and decent savings accounts but we are transitioning to the Dave Ramsey financial plan, so soon credit won’t be a “thing” for us.
I do understand that everyone’s situation is different. I also do understand that your credit could go down at any point if a financial crisis arises but, that’s not the part I’m worried about.
Also I should note; I think that decent credit and financial stability go hand and hand. Just my opinion.
If roles were reversed and we had not the best credit, I think I would’ve waited to get married just so we didn’t marry with that as a problem. Not saying I wouldn’t marry him at all, but there’s absolutely no rush to get married anyways so I think it would be a better decision to wait and get yourself up to par financially prior too.
I should also note that no, I don’t think you have to be rich to be financially stable. Just living within your means, whatever that may be.
