I HATED the medela. With a fiery passion. I'm going to try the spectra S1 this time because it has an hour of built in battery time and my main complaint was it was so hard to be plugged into the wall while trying to simultaneously care for an infant and do anything else. I hated the medela system because if you lose suction on one side you have to re attach with the spectra the lines are separate with medela they arent. I'm only trying a different pump because my insurance covers 1 per birth event. ALSO I'm going to get a hand pump. I'm looking at the lanisoh hand pump because I've heard they actually stimulate production better and you can pump one side while the baby feeds on the other.

I’ve read that the spectra is easier to clean and more sanitary bc it’s a closed system so I’m going with that.

I think there are a lot of great ones out there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not partial to one specifically. But I have used the Ameda Purely Yours Ultra with my last two. It’s been a great pump, and came with a ton of extras.

From research online and with friends I went with Spectra, and I paid the $37 to upgrade to the S1 with the rechargeable battery. The Spectra is lighter and quieter, and has better suction (both more options and stronger- it’s hospital grade). It is also a closed system meaning milk can’t back up into tubes and cause mold issues which are frequently found in medelas unless the tubes are cleaned properly each time. I did read the flanges and accessories are not as good but you can always update these (there are different brands that can work with Spectra).

I had a medela with my first and never had a mold issue. I’ve been looking at reviews to see which one to get this time, everyone loves the spectra but I have also found a lot of reviews saying they lost suction within weeks to 2-3 months and customer service was awful. I think I’m just going to stick with the medela again because I know they hold up well and I got plenty with it last time.

I’ve heard that the spectras are more sanitary from a friend who donates for the micro preemies, medelas not so sanitary and builds up mold in the machine
