When I was growing up, I only ever heard Avery as a boy's name but now it's very popular for girls. I think it's a unisex name.

Here’s my Avery, when we were in the hospital and they took us to the mother baby unit the nurse asked us his name and we didn’t mention that he was a boy and she thought he was a girl by his name. We knew when we chose his name is it was a neutral name, I’ve only ever heard of girls named Avery and my husband had only heard of boys named Avery so we decided before we knew if he was a boy or a girl that the name would be Avery regardless. We’re very happy with it and get compliments on it all the time.

It’s A LOT more common for girls than boys in the US. I’d check out the social security baby name website, and see how big of a difference in popularity it is between the two genders. If it doesn’t bother you, then go for it! 
I myself have only ever met girls named Avery. I’ve heard it around more and more lately.
